Report in Malacca, by Yvonne Ng Qiu Wen
Report in Malacca
It was Friday 9am in the morning, we began our journey to Malacca. Everyone seems so tired that morning because we didn’t have enough sleep the day before that. But still, that didn’t roil everything, we are still follow the plan. We went there by car. One of our member, that is Chai, he drove us there.
We arrived Malacca about 11am something. We found my aunt’s shop house and put our luggage there. My aunt house is actually the place that we are going to stay that night. After greeting my aunt and get our luggage placed, we decided to start out research journey. My aunt house is actually in the Jonker Street and it was in the middle of all those tourism places. So we might not need the car as we can just walk around there. From my aunt’s shop. we walked. We saw a store which was selling wooden cloaks. It was just opposite my aunt’s shop. It was a store full of wooden cloaks. Those wooden cloaks were painted beautifully. Most of them were red in colour. We took some picture of them because we think that might be interesting to be one part of our director.
We continue walk along the street after that. We decided to explore the place together instead of splitting and do our own part because we think that with exploring the places together we can get different opinion and we wouldn’t easily missed any points or details. However we still dropping notes of our own area although we explore it together.
Those buildings along the way are interesting. Most of them were nice and colourful. I took some pictures of those buildings as I am responsible in doing the building part. I also observe the structure and the colour of the buildings there. I found that most of the buildings like to paint into striking colours. And one more thing interesting about Malacca’s buildings is they were usually built very long.
After walking for some minutes, an interesting shop had attracted me. The title of the shop stated “金星上人” direct translate in English is “Gold star on people”. Weird isn’t it?! We wonder what would this shop suppose to be? Then we saw a board beside the title of the shop. It stated “library”, we were shock! Something comes in our mind suddenly. Since we are searching for a name which was doesn’t heard before and was not suppose to sounds like it suppose to looks like, so this is it! We had decided to make this place our final destination. Without second thoughts, we went in the so call library and start our research. When we first step in, we felt relaxing. It was a nice and peaceful environment. Really suitable for reading. One more thing I found out about Malacca’s buildings, they usually have at least a place inside which was not covered by roof. Means there are sunlight coming though. The library that we went in has two places like that. So that part of the area, the shopkeeper Mr. Hong, had plant some plants at there. It had made the whole place more relaxing and cooling. Mr. Hong also shared some knowledge with us about how to define when the building was build and the meaning of some drawings on the building. After doing some interviews and video recording, we thank Mr. Hong for the information and continue our journey. Mr. Hong is really a nice man. He told us everything he knows generously. We walk out of the shop with full of satisfaction.
Then we have our lunch after that. We tried out some baba nyonya’s food, such as their laksa, asam laksa and lots more. The most interesting part is the decoration of the shop. Inside of the shop was full of old stuff such as the old time typing machine, fan, telephone and lots more. We are actually surrounding by those stuff while having our lunch. Although the shop seems so old with the walks cracked and stuff, fortunately, it brings out a different feel. We feel extraordinary relaxing eating there with the old time music that they played out. This is definitely couldn’t find in our big city Kuala Lumpur. After having our lunch, we went to try the famous cendol. The durian cendol that I tried is extremely delicious! We were enjoying eating while Chai do his research as well.
We continue our journey after satisfied eating. We then reached a place which out side of its wall was full of illustration in red ink. We felt curious and walked in to have a look. The owner of the shop calls Ah Long. He sells stuff such as red handicraft, paper lantern, wooden cloaks and lots more. All of them are hand made. We were very impressed by his skills of making those entire handicrafts. He even had show us some photo that was taken by his parents during the older days. From there, I can see last time how Malacca actually looks like. The buildings in the photo of course still seem so new compare with today’s and last time the roads are just sand.
With the introduction of Mr. Ah Long, we went to a baba nyonya’s house for a visit. We got to study the structure of a baba nyonya’s house. We also study how their furniture looks like, their clothing and lots more. It was a big house and actually a little similar with those houses that we had visit before this.
It was already evening, we were quite tired and went back to my aunt’s shop and had a rest. We continue our exploration at night. We went to Jonker Walk. It was actually something like pasar malam. Stalls selling food, souvenirs were opened along the street. We then stop by a shall selling hainan chicken rice balls which was introduce by Mr. Ah Long too to have our diner. According to Mr. Ah Long, that was the most delicious hainan chicken rice balls along the street. Yea, he is telling the truth. After eating, we went to interview the cook. They are cooked by a couple. According to them, the chicken rice was produce into balls because this is actually the culture of the hainan people. In old days, they use to pick the chicken in one hand and in the other hand with the rice while eating. That’s why the chicken rice is made in balls. And today, it has become everyone’s favorite.
After that we have a walk in a shopping complex call Markota. Mostly youngsters there. We observe what they like to do and in the other hand enjoy ourselves also. we ends that day’s journey there and went back my aunt house to have a nice sleep. We then went back Cyberjaya the next morning. It was a memorable and unforgettable great trip.

Report in Malacca, by Chai Chuan Sheng
Report in MalaccaWe arrive at Melacca around 11 am today. The first thing we do when we arrive is we quickly walk around the town. Sound funny but this is what we do. What we can say is this is the 1st time we really discover deeply into Melacca town. Honestly, the people who live here is very friendly and nice. They do not mind if people interview them. They are happy to share with people about their experience, the history and other things. We interview some of the shop owner and most of them welcome us with their passion and sincere heart. Their attitude are 100 times better than the people who live in city. We are also impress with their handicraft! We visited a handicraft shop. A young man was in there, he was making a kind of wood slippers. This is the 1st time we saw this. The slippers were so nice and beautiful! We got a chance to interview him and he was so friendly. Besides, we heard that Melacca also famous with a type of biscuit call pineapple biscuits. We bought the biscuit and we try them. Wow, so nice! No other word to describe it. Haha…. We spent most of the time in a library call “Jing Xing Shang Ren”. The library was pack with a lots of book until the librarian put a notice board outside says that there are no more place in the library to accept any books anymore. We was amaze! When go into the library, first thing come into our eyes is the environment. Although the library does not have air-conditioner, it still stay cool. According to the owner of the library, Mr. Hong, he himself design the interior. Most of the materials of the decoration are recycle thing. We never think about it. Usually we will think of buy the new one to replace the old one. We agree with that. The important of reuse the old thing is because it has something humanity inside it compare to the machine-made thing. Mr. Hong teach us many things, like the history of the library/ Melacca, the unique way of building, how to differentiate the age of the wood, etc. That’s why we spent the time there.
At night, we went to visit the Jonker Street . There is a night market (pasar malam) every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Of course the street was pack with people. We went to eat the chicken rice balls. It was so nice and we can’t forget the taste till now. We also interview the stall owner and we get to know about the history of the chicken rice balls. After that, we went to walk around the street. Funny things were being sold there.
As conclusion, this is the 1st time I deeply discover Melacca. I appreciate those people who had been interviewed and provide us information. I would like to share with the class about our experience in Melacca.

Report in MalaccaThis is the first trip I travel at Malacca. Actually I was doing a project with my team mates who are chai, wan xun and yvonne. I was very excited when reached Malacca. Then we start to do the research at Jonker Walk. I like the environment here, although I almost getting sunburn but still quite enjoy. We took a lot of photo here like here got quite many temples which are very old already. And we also took a lot of people working photo. My searching part is what kind of fashion of Malacca teenager. Actually teenager here is wearing quite fashion style. Some more we had traveled to a library that is very special ! I know a lot of history from the library, and we also had made friend with the boss of the library. All building at Jonker Walk is very long which is the trait of the building also. In addition, we try a lot of food here such as asam laksa, babar laksa, chendol , nyonya kuih and etc. That all are very delicious ! Unfortunately we have no enough time to travel in Malacca , so that the next day we have to go back cyberjaya .I was miss the food there so much and I promise I must go there again if got chance !by Low Aik Hui
